This is the Japanese reading of the Chinese characters for the name of the kenpō style, learnet by
the teacher Uechi Kanbun
in China, and that was called Pangainūn (Han Kō Nan, in Japanese), which is translated as Half
hard - Half soft. The style was renamed Uechi-ryū
in 1940 by Uechi Kanei,
son of Uechi Kanbun.
